What is The Difference Between GMO vs. Non-GMO Corn Seeds
Genetically modified organisms, also known as GMO, are a type of organism whose genetic structure has been altered.
The main difference between GMO and Non-GMO food is simple. The non-genetically modified food has not been modified or altered in any way. On the other hand, GMO food has been genetically altered in some form.
Non-GMO corn seeds don’t contain any added material. In other words, when you see the term non-GMO on the packing of tropical corn seeds, it means the farmer grows un-treated seeds.
Usually, the genetically modified organism combines agricultural products to be more resistant to different factors like pests, fungi, and herbicides.
Some of the most controversial factors of GMO include:
1. Agricultural
GMO tropical corn seeds can use higher agricultural chemical levels, which can cause pollution and loss of natural habitats. This, in turn, leads to a loss of natural resources, which can result in a higher risk of crop breakdown.
Note that GMO crops can’t be organic foods as there are usually chemicals used.
2. Environmental
One of the main issues of GMO crops is that they can pollute the water as they use high levels of agricultural chemicals. Studies have shown that the use of agricultural chemicals has increased.
It’s essential to keep in mind that continuous exposure to agricultural chemicals can cause neurological and hormonal damage, especially in children.
Many GMO tropical corn seeds were designed to withstand highly estrogenic herbicide use, which can cause nasty hormonal effects on humans and wildlife.
Besides, GMO seeds use higher amounts of water. But perhaps the biggest issue is that GMOs aren’t natural since they’re not naturally produced.
3. Health
GMO seeds are linked to food allergies as they can have possible adverse effects on digestibility. Genetically modified crops must be tested to assure safety, including the nonappearance of allergens.
Some studies have shown higher anti-nutrient elements and lower levels of nutrients in some GMO tropical corn seeds.
4. Safety
One of the primary purposes of GMO crops is to promote higher rates of agricultural chemical use.
This could lead to an adaptation to herbicides and pesticides by weeds and pests, stimulating more effective use of these chemicals by vegetable gardeners.
5. Other Issues
Another significant issue about GMOs is the lack of transparency since this type of crops usually don’t require labelling or safety testing. Besides, the use of patented seeds comes with
strict restrictions.
For instance, farmers can be forbidden from saving seeds to plant next year’s crop. This leads to more costs for vegetable gardeners to grow patented seeds.
Another downside is that this type of crop can’t be consumed by people who follow religious and other dietary restrictions since different species are intermixed without labelling. For example, fish genes have been placed into tomatoes.
Moreover, it’s impossible for people on restricted diets to find out the nutritional value as GMO foods are not required to be tested for nutritional equivalence before selling.

Stay worry-free with Antibiotics and Growth Hormones
Eating food that contains antibiotics or growth hormones can wreak havoc on the human body. Do you know the use of antibiotics can create bacteria-resistant strains?
This can reduce the overall immunity of the human body, which in turn, increase susceptibility to disease.
When it comes to non-GMO tropical corn seeds, they are free from antibiotics and growth hormones, making them a more ideal choice.
Fresher Foods
GMO foods are engineered using chemical preservatives to make them last longer. Although they do really last longer, do these foods still carry the nutrients they claim to have?
The answer is a resounding no. Foods are beneficial to the human body only if they are fresh. Since non-GMO corn seeds are 100% natural, growers are assured of corns that are 100% fresh and nutritious.
Environmentally-friendly
The high use of chemicals when planting GMO foods over a period of time can cause soil erosion, infertility and pollution.
This causes a strain on the earth’s natural resources. However, when it comes to planting non-GMO foods (in this case, corn seeds), the use of chemicals is non-existence.
In other words, planting GMO corn seeds is completely friendly to the environment.
In a Nutshell
Not only is growing GMO corn seeds not friendly to the environment, but it may also cause undesirable effects in other aspects such as health and safety.
On the contrary, non-GMO corn seeds are completely free from toxic chemicals, antibiotics and growth hormones, and are 100% natural and unharmful to the environment.
